Bees in the Bee Baltic Beehive

What is raw honey?

Raw honey is honey that has not been processed or pasteurised in any way. It is cold extracted straight from the hive. Most importantly it is free from antibiotics and has not been infused with any additional flavourings or sweeteners.
Commercially available honey is usually heavily processed, pasteurised and heated to make it more appealing for the customer. Commercially bought honey may also be blended with other low quality honey or mixed with refine sugars. These processes destroy all the vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes that the honey contains. Pasteurisation also reduces honey’s nutritional value, benefits and quality.

Therefore we test all of our honey in certified laboratory to meet the high quality standards of raw honey. We use sustainable beekeeping practices and use natural and ecological remedies for treating bees. This way we can ensure the honey is real and preserves all of its natural beneficial qualities.

Why has my honey crystallised?

Honey crystallisation is purely a natural process. All raw honey sets over time depending on its characteristics and nutrient composition. Only honey which has been processed or pasteurised may stay in its original state throughout the whole time. This is because pasteurised honey goes through high heating in high temperature. This is where all the natural properties of raw honey are lost.

Natural honey carries small particles of pollen or propolis in it as raw honey is only filtered from big solids. Pollen carries many nutritional values. And the different composition of minerals in it may lead to honey crystallising sooner or later. For example, Acacia honey or honeydew remains in liquid form for long time of period.

However, in case of crystallisation occurs, you may gently warm the jars in hot water to return to liquid state but please make sure that the temperature is not higher than 40 degrees Celcius.

How do I store and use my raw honey?

Please store your raw honey in cool and dry place. Make sure it is out of direct sunlight and that the lid is always fully closed after use. When left opened for pro-longed periods of time, due to its qualities, honey may attract too much moisture and can become spoiled.

You can use your honey with any dish or drink or have it on its own. If you’re using honey with tea, we recommend to let the tea get slightly cooler so that the heat does not destroy all of the natural and healing properties of raw honey. Also keep an eye on our blog section, we will share some of the recipes that help to indulge the taste of honey. Hope you enjoy your raw honey and remember always keep the honey jar closed after having that sweet tooth.

Why is raw honey not suitable for children under 1 year of age?

Raw honey is full of different minerals, nutrients and vitamins that have natural healing properties. In addition honey may also carry non-toxic and friendly bacteria called Clostridium botulinum. However as children under 1 year of age are more sensitive to whole environment there is a risk of this bacteria surviving in infants stomach. Therefore, to prevent the risk, we place a warning on the label “Not suitable for infants under 12 months”.

Once there is no risk, raw honey is fully recommended to be used by children. Scientific researches has shown that children had better blood system and skin colour. Additionally the research has showed that children were less prone to illnesses due to stronger immune system. Fun fact is that babies on raw honey diet cried less too.

Where does the honey come from?

Bee Baltic bees roam and collect the raw honey in Lithuania! You may wonder where is Lithuania. Let us help you to track it. Lithuania is one of the Baltic states. It borders Latvia, Poland, Belarus and the Baltic sea. Lithuania has long and respected honey and beekeeping traditions.

Here are some fun and interesting facts about the homeland of our bees. Lithuania is full of wild meadows and lush forests! Lithuania has one of the oldest oaks in Europe, Oak of Stelmužė which is 1500 years old. There are 22,000 rivers and streams in Lithuania. And air in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, is the cleanest among the Eastern and Central European capitals, ranked as no.1 in the Green City Index.

Why don’t you sell more honeys from UK?

We deeply respect honey collected in UK, however UK consumes a lot more honey than it produces. Hence we can fulfil the demand by providing different floral types of honey that are not as usual in UK.

Moreover, UK is intensely developed country, hence to meet the consumer demand, UK uses a lot of pesticides in its agriculture. Additionally due to build up environment there is naturally more pollution in the nature. As a result the bees and honey may be affected by these factors.

None the less, through our mission we support small scale beekeepers. And we recommend you to try some of the honey from UK local beekeepers too. Ourselves, we are big fans of honey, so do let us know if you find honey that you love. We will be glad to try it too!

We seek to bring the untouched nature to you through the spoon of honey. And we love sharing with you wild Lithuanian raw honey. We truly hope you will discover taste of nature with Bee Baltic.

Is there any difference between Raw Honey and Manuka Honey?

Manuka honey is a specific type of raw honey. Just like in Lithuania we have Linden honey which comes from Linden trees, so does New Zealand have Tea Tree species called Manuka. Just like our bees collect nectar from Linden blossoms, so does bees in New Zealand collect nectar from Manuka trees. No matter what is the name or type, both belong to Raw Honey category if it was ethically harvested and no processing or pasteurisation occurred during the process.

Due to significant investment in scientific research and marketing, Manuka honey has been known for its strength in antibacterial properties. However all Raw Honey carry extensive antibacterial and healing properties. From the old Lithuanian traditions and history we can see that people have used Raw Honey for curing their illnesses for thousands of years. Linden nectar honey is known for powerful antibacterials properties too. We are certain that with more research Linden or Buckwheat Raw Honey would show results similar of Manuka honey.

Good honey but customer service should improve

Great honey. Unfortunately one of the four ordered jars arrived broken; as a result I had to request a replacement.
I both emailed and called BeeBaltic various times. It took a fair while for them to get back to me (on both email and phone). Eventually I managed to speak to Paul, whose willing approach is to praise; nonetheless, I strongly encourage the business to really improve their customer service: replies and refunds/replacements should be much quicker. The long wait in getting a reply made me believe I got scammed...
Improvement is much needed.

Lovely gift set and great products, very happy with my order, thank you so much

Raw and beautiful

I only found out about rapeseed honey last year. The fact that this in the only honey that helps with making the body alkaline was the main selling point, as all other honeys trigger acidity. We initially ordered the smaller pot to try it, and were not disappointed. Smooth and tasty, raw and perfect in every way. Our small jar of was eaten too quickly, so we ordered the large 1kg jar. Came quickly and is used daily :)
